Alternator numbers

Does anybody have a original 66 chevy truck with a 61amp or 42 amp alternator? Would like to know what part number is on it and date code? Thanks

Re: Alternator numbers

The specifications section in the 66 Chevy Truck Shop Manual Supplement lists the following alternator numbers:

Base 37 Amp (except G10) .... 1100693
Optional 42 Amp .... 1100696
Optional 61 Amp .... 1100750

It also lists a couple of optional 62 Amp alternators (# 1117765 & 1117754) ... I believe those are the larger 6.2" "perforated stator" type alternators as opposed to the more common 5.5" aluminum type.

I think I might still have a 42 or 61 Amp alternator laying around that came off a 66 C60 farm truck. I'll see if I can find it and get the date code off it.

Re: Alternator numbers

I'm not sure about the pulley size ... I'll measure it for you if I find it though. I do remember that it was a double groove pulley and used a woodruff key.

The only pic I have handy at the moment is this:

That's from a 66 that's still in use by one of the local farmers. But it's nearly identical to the one I parted out.

Re: Alternator numbers

Well, I found the alternator that came off that 66 C60 truck but unfortunately it's not as original as I had thought. It's a #1100680 42 amp alternator with a date code of 4C10. According to my sources, that's decoding as a Pontiac alternator from March 10th, 1964. Most likely found it's way onto that truck as a remanufactured unit.

The double groove pulley (assuming that is original to the truck but I can't say for sure) measures 3" outside diameter.

Re: Alternator numbers

this was the regulator that was used with that 62 amp Delcotron. I think that the 62 amp would have been used in that C60. they are an expensive alt and reg

Re: Alternator numbers

I bought mine at a swap meet because of the open area behind its' fan. I never saw one like it before (that I noticed at least). Is it rare? Old? Or just another alternator. Anybody have some wisdom to share?

Does this mount with the rubber grommets like the points style or directly to the rad support? Also does this need to be grounded to the firewall via the little black wire that the points style has or does it just ground to the rad support if it is bolted directly to it. or does it not need a ground at all? Im installing one and I really don't want to fry it up. Rod.

Re: Alternator numbers

just as you see it in the picture. that was a factory install on the 66 ambulance that I had. do you have the mounting bracket for the end of the manifold that I show above for the alternator?

Wow I was just searching for more info on 62 amp alternators and I forgot about this thread. Yes I do have all the mounting brackets. I now have 2 of these alternators . One is a 150 series and the other is a 250 series. Both are identical mounting but are different in the back
