Turn signal wiring and blowing fuse

Good afternoon. I have a 1975 Chevy Blazer. When the left turn signal is engaged the fuse blows. The right turn signal works great, zero issues. The left turn signal uses a Yellow wire. I have come to this conclusion because the right turn signal works great and will NOT blow the fuse. The fuse only blows when the left turn switch is used.

I assumed a short directly to ground in the yellow wire but I'v been unable to find one.

Any advice?

Re: Turn signal wiring and blowing fuse

I had this issue too. The wire casing gets dried and cracks, exposing the wires. So it is shorting out because it's touching metal on the inside of the column. I saw how bad mine was, when i changed out the turn signal stalk with a new one. I had several places were the wiring was exposed.

I wish I had taken a picture of it, I could have posted it.

Re: Turn signal wiring and blowing fuse

Take the bulbs out and see if it blows. I bought a truck w/ aftermarket front signal sockets and the cheap things would short. After that, its tracing the wiring. Pain in the rear...

Ive seen this on several GM Saginaw columns. If the insulation is breaking up change the turn signal switch. If the Hazards blow the fuse then it's a good guess that it's in the column.

The other place to look is the bulbs. Take all four out and see if the fuse blows with no bulbs in place. I've had cheapies short internally.
