1966 c20 bumper. Custom?

Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone has seen a bumper like this before (hopefully pictures show up). I assume it was made so the tailgate could fully drop down.

Looks dealer-installed to me. Never seen one before. Do you know the history of the truck? I can't figure out why they would need the gate out of the way.

Re: 1966 c20 bumper. Custom?

The majority of the pickups I have bought around this area all, for the most part, had bumpers like that. A lot had the dealerships name engraved in them. Probably owned close to 35-40 pickups so about 75% have had them. Also my 3/4 dd has one and it comes in handy with loading some mulch and other stuff in it

I've also seen that bumper a number of times. All my C20's have come with the bardon step bumper.

Thanks for the replies. I picked up the truck in western iowa seems to have been a farm truck for most of its life. I figured they probably shoveled something out of the back. Never thought about it bring dealer installed figured it was homemade. Anyone know who made these?

If anyone else is interested I figured out it is a master guard tail-gator bumper. Hardly any info out there.

Re: 1966 c20 bumper. Custom?

I picked one up a few years back. Turned out to be a Barden made for a short step truck. It had the recessed tail and reverse lights with the license plate light in there too. Pretty interesting piece. Had thought about adapting it to the '63 but Im guessing after 3 years, I won't be getting to that project. LOL.
