One owner 71 with 55,000 miles

Bought this about 9 years ago from a farmer in Arkansas, he had bought it new & used it hard on his farm for 36 years. I brought it home & took it apart to clean, paint (except the body) & fix anything that was broken. It is a solid & unmolested truck, just needed a lot of elbow grease. I've had it sitting in my shed in a car bag for the last 5 years & finally got it out again to put a few miles on it. I added the tilt & the seat, but other than that it's like it came from GM. I did add a camaro tach also. Forgot I added PS & PB too.

Like your truck. I am a fan of the side mount spare. Enjoy driving.

Nice truck! Wonder how long it will be until someone argues the low mileage claim?

I believe your right- thanks for the nice comments. To be honest, the mileage isn't a big deal- you could have a clean 120,000 mile truck that spent most of it's life in the city & on the highway and it wouldn't have the wear & tear that this truck has experienced.

Re: One owner 71 with 55,000 miles

I know when my dad was buying these trucks back then he tried to get rid of them around 50,000 miles. He farmed hard out of them and the roads we have now are a good bit better than what he ran on in the day.It would work out sometimes he would get two trucks a year[sometimes more] but he said they were wore out at 50K. Driving on turnrows and lots of gravel he was right.
It is a little different now, I have a 2012 Z71 crew cab I'm just finishing up and it has 34K and has never been on a gravel road. The 4X4 has probably never been used, it was just another option the sales guy sold when the person went to the dealer saying I want a loaded truck.

Re: One owner 71 with 55,000 miles

We bought a 70 GMC K2500 That the guy was trying to convince me that the truck only had 20K on it. After looking at it, it was pretty obvious that it had at least 120K (Hell, maybe even 220K!).

Turns out, the rear axle shafts have the splines almost worn off and the ring and pinion are 1973 and the spider gears are blown out of the rear carrier (but no chunks???) and they WELDED the cross-pin into the carrier. So the rear axle has seen some serious towing and abuse. The front axle knuckles were worn out, but the splines were in good shape. The body is in good shape other than a few dents.

The real give-away was the Chevrolet tailgate on a GMC truck........

He claimed he never noticed that.....

We are rebuilding everything. Gonna take a while.
