I6 owners: what did you do for a new radiator?
I'm not sure this 4 core radiator I bought will work....it seems to sit very close to my 250 I6's fan. I don't want to change over to an electric fan if I can help it.
What did you 250 and 292 owners do for a new radiator that worked with your engine-mounted fan? |

Re: I6 owners: what did you do for a new radiator?
Thanks man. I may have to do that.
I did find out from dad that the radiator in the truck is the original factory one. However, it's pretty leaky and would have to be recored, according to the rad. shop guy. Anyone else? |

Re: I6 owners: what did you do for a new radiator?
My truck's original radiator is a 2 row, not 4 row. Would it still be that superior?

Re: I6 owners: what did you do for a new radiator?
Just put up a Want To Buy ad in the parts section , I did for my 67 250 farm truck and found a very clean original for $85.00 shipped .i'm sure there are a bunch of good original radiators laying in garages where the new owner wanted a shiny new aluminum replacement or changed out from a big block build .

Yes, for your climate zone, 2 rows is OK.

If the recore is too steep for your wallet then like others have said Champion CC369 is going for $200-$227 would be the most first choose to have

Agree. A two row would be fine. The Champions are well liked.
When my pump bearing blew & fan chewed the rad, I used a 3 row I had in mothballs from a '69 GTO. Only minor differences. One thing I do like about GM. Parts interchangeability.

Re: I6 owners: what did you do for a new radiator?
I have for now decided to go with my Vista Pro 4 row copper/brass radiator. I got it at about 1/2 the price of the Champion you've (and Grumpy) have suggested.
I think I need 4 row brackets for it, which a member and I worked out a deal for earlier today. If this radiator doesn't work out, I'll go for either the Champion or the KKS Motorsports another member posted about. |

Re: I6 owners: what did you do for a new radiator?
Ugh! I don't think the Vista Pro 4 row will work. I just came in from some exhaustive test fitting....yes at this hour....and the 4 row radiator sits up too high. My original will work but I'd have to move one of the lower brackets.
I'm going to look into the Champion that has been suggested along with one from KKS that another member used. I am going to get a recore estimate for my original radiator also. I need to solve this radiator problem before front end reassembly. I'll hang onto the Vista Pro though, it seems to be a solid radiator. |

Re: I6 owners: what did you do for a new radiator?
I am awaiting the champion radiator as my stocker is leaking. Got the EC369 two row.

I might be able to move the passenger side bracket over, there are holes for that, and that might do it. I'd have to take some more measurements though. Ugh! This core support once held the radiator for a factory 396....I wish I had bought the radiator too. |

Nothing wrong with the radiator and I got it at about 1/3 of the usual price. I might could use it in my Pontiac or some other vehicle. It is no longer made, consists of brass and copper, and since I'd have to pay return shipping, I think it's silly to return it. I'll hang onto it. The foreign-made radiators like the Champion are looking better and I did call Jegs on that one but KKS seems to be a better deal, even though it is foreign-made also. I have not yet decided. Re-coring mine is likely to be very expensive although I'd like to get that done at some point. Last edited by In The Ten Ring; 09-20-2016 at 06:19 PM. |
