Question!

Why dont people reradius their wheelwell arches when they put a 88-98 stepside box on their 67-72 Chevy and GMC Trucks? I love that they are keepin em on the road and all, and some of them are very very nice that I see, but why not go that extra step and have the wheelwells on the box redone so that they are similar to the fronts???

Is it very difficult or expensive for a bodyshop to do? I have seen some trucks that look like they have had tens upon tens of thousands of dollars poured into em, but whynot fix this rather ocvious detail?!?

thats a damn good question! if i had a newer style box it would HAVE to be done or id go boxless until i found the proper year box

im guessing they just don't want to fool with the bodywork. they may have already painted the front clip and would not want to go back and spend who knows how much cash making them match.

but i do agree, it looks bad. i actually think the '88-up "Shoebox Chevies" are plug ugly and dime a dozen, but thats just MO. I don't think the 2 styles fuse well, even though body lines may.

oh and i meant that the box would be made to match the front fenders, not the other way around. I agree that they dont match up too well (body lines, yes) but the taillights dont do much for the truck (i do like 88-98 chevs tho) when the tails are shaved and put in the roll pan, then its good looking. Any other opinions on the wheelwells?

I don't see why you couldn't take an old bedside and cut out the wheel arches, then do a bit of reforming and tack them into place? I know what you are getting at, and have often wondered myself...

The late model bedsides are fiberglass......so there is no lowbuck fix to the problem

I've got a magazine with a '70 truck with the wheel arches from a '89 truck(and much more too)on the stock bed no less- and it sure does look good,I think it's because the 89 wheel openings are more square,it just looks right...wish I had a scanner

it's in june 2002 issue of custom classic trucks

I agree with tom hand, the bedsides are fiberglass. To make the wheelwell arches look right you would have to make a mold of the original arches, then make fiberglass arches to graft onto the new style bedsides. Very labor intensive, but if you want it to look right I guess you could go the exta mile.

I suppose you could chop up a set of http://www.usbody.com fiberglass bedsides (or maybe their stepside fenders) it would be really expensive though.

The actual bed was steel but the bed sides from the top body line down were fiberglass...at least every 88-98 model I've seen.

i have one on my '67 # 1 reason it s there FREEBEE. i am saving for a us body bed. then the problem is trying to matsh paint stupid me tossed out every thing about the paint.
