ya, I'm glad that is all done. Hoping to get the cab into primer tomorrow or early next week for sure. I'd like to start putting some stuff back together so feels like I'm making some progress haha. Then start putting my drivetrain together into the frame. Have to go pick up my South Bend clutch/flywheel assembly soon too. That was a $1000 touch in itself.

As for the fat mat, it was left over from the dually crew, and the price is rediculous...so not sure I am going to continue. I bought a 2gal pail of lizard skin that will go in and out firewall and see how far it goes. I might just buy another pail or two of that instead as it seems to be more cost effective than the matting.

Re: Project: ____________________________

Was looking back thru this one. Which Cummins swap brackets to mount the engine to the stock clam shell mounts on the frame (I know you upgraded to poly over the OE rubber)?

Thanks!

Ones on Ebay for $222 per set. Make sure you use the prothane clam shell mounts, only ones I know so far that are proven not to self destruct.

Re: Project: ____________________________

Had this done for a few weeks now but just haven't had a chance to get stuff posted up. Been busy finishing the build on my new car hauler, dragged home a few flippers and keepers as well. Managed to find myself a 66 cadillac coupe de ville 2dr ht (no motor) but in decent shape. Always wanted one...love the 66's. So it will be home this week once I finish up the trailer beaver tail modification and mount my winch. Also dragged home a 49 merc that I'm gonna flip later on for some funds...hahaha.

Also finally ordered and recieved my southbend clutch assembly. Just sitting there waiting to be installed.

Anyways, on with the build. Finally got the lizard skin shot onto the inner floor/firewall and outter firewall. Honest opinion....won't waste my money on it again I don't think. Messy as ****, takes forever to spray it, dries on the gun tip fairly quickly, and really can't notice near as much difference as you can with the fat mat. But after that I got 3 good solid coats of Raptor liner on the cab inside and out after 2 coats of epoxy, and 3 coats of high build/sealer. Blocked it out and shot the bed liner. Decided not to use a paint code...rather just used straight silver toner. Long story....lol. So now cab is pushed to the side to cure and hoping to roll the frame in so i can start assembling stuff.

Re: Project: ____________________________

Engine/trans/tcase in their new home, cab is bolted down, starting to assemble a few things on the cab/frame. Cut and welded up my cross over steering, XJ steering shaft swap complete, twin sticks extended and moved a bit for placement, 1" body lift in, wiper assembly installed, south bend clutch kit installed, ford steel rims blasted and ready for prime/paint, and a few other odds and ends.

Re: Project: ____________________________

Well I've been MIA at the cabin/lake for most of the summer and haven't done much of anything really. Progress has been minimal at best.

I have the rear seats more a less mounted (2005 ram seats), fronts are mocked but not finished, front bumper is close to done (including winch mount), rims primed and painted, tires mounted (temporary ones), cross over steering in....bout it really. Hoping to get back on it in the next week or two and make some sort of bloody progress.

Re: Project: ____________________________

Well............no other way to say this but to tear off the band aid with one quick swipe.

This build can be added to my gracious list of unfinished/sold projects.

In my defence, with all the projects I wanted to complete there just wasn't enough time in the days anymore, and funds just can't support this many projects so something had to give. And in some ways unfortunately the crew cab had enough interest from some people it made sense to part it all out. Though there is some good news with this decision as well believe it or not.

The thing is, I didn't wan to sell my 68 suburban, or my 68 short box.....so I figured the best avenue at this point was to combine the cummins build with my 68 Suburban. I kept all the driveline and goodies from the crew cab and sold off darn near every single other piece of it here and there in a matter of a couple of weeks. Believe it or not I didn't lose any cash investment when all was said and done, in fact I came out ahead quite well. Not going to get my time back but some is salvaged in the burb build.

I have built square bodies for so darn long it the old "doing things over and over again expecting different result" is definition of insanity. I have owned/parted/built well over 50+ square body trucks. It was time for a change of pace and this was my chance to do so after finding my burb before there was not going to be a financial way out without losing cash invested.

That being said it all went to good homes and very minimal waste.

And as for the burb "the mullet" it has already been gutted of it's natural 2wd status, converted to tons, and sitting on 285s as we speak all in a matter of a couple days.

I will understand the disapointment...but it was a decision I had to mull over and make. The final decision for me involved the fact that there has been quite a few CC diesel swap trucks around and this definitely played a part in the decision. Around here locally I know of one 68 burb worth looking at and it is a more a less stock 2wd....so this burb build will at least stand out in the crowd locally and makes more sense to haul the family, dog and boat back and forth to the lake.

...anyway, is what it is. Thanks for the support and input in the project. Lots will be carried over to the new platform, yet taking a whole different direction on it in comparison.

Re: Project: ____________________________

No complaints here. I feel your pain and know all too well what several projects can do to your wallet and clock. I love 4x4 burbs, so this is a great choice IMO. I'm in to watch too. I've kicked the idea around several times here lately to part out my 76 and just build my crew 70-72. I just don't think the square stuff would bring enough for me to justify parting it in this area. Anyway, the burb is looking great. Can't wait to see the thread on it!
