Dash Lights for 1987 R-10

I am going to order some parts I need to complete my dash from LMC for my 1987 R-10,,, I am not sure about one of the parts,,, wanted to see if anyone could help me out with this,,,

My dash lights only sort of work,,, and what is working is dim,,, I haven't tore it apart to see,,, kinda of want all the parts on hand before I start tearing it apart,,, my R-10 is my daily,, My dash lights only sort of work,, I am thinking that there will be more than one bulb needed,,, I don't know this though,,, So here is the problem,,,

In the LMC catalog,,, They show for the 1973 to 1980 truck,,, part number 36-0224 instrument panel bulb,,, number needed- AS ( as required ) makes me think you need more than one.

But I have a 1987 R-10,, you have to go to the next page in the catalog to get to the parts I need for my truck ,,, they show no bulbs Will,,, the bulbs for the 73 to 80 C-10 fit my truck,,, how many do I need if they do ?

I also need a new horn,,, mine is original ,,, nothing wrong with that,,, but its weak,,, could just be from age,,, any suggestions as to what I could do with that?

Re: Dash Lights for 1987 R-10

Well I would go with LED's. I did this myself on my dash. I believe there is around 11- 15 bulbs in the cluster, they are stock 168. When you look at a printed circuit, that goes on the back of the cluster, there is about 15 holes, where the lights would go. Here's a bulb guide that comes out of the chevy book. LMC lists bulbs for the cluster. There's 5 and then all the individual indicator bulbs.

I would get a new lens for you cluster too, while your tearing it all down.

But if you go with LED's, they would be 194

As far as your horn, it may be the contact is worn. Here's video on how to repair.

I did mine also, when I installed a new steering wheel.

If you are just replacing with stock 168 bulbs, you should be able to get those locally at about any auto parts store, or even Wal Mart.

I'm not sure if its on here or another board, but there was a write up about repainting the whole inside of the cluster with chrome spray paint and installing LEDs.

I did this and it is 10000x better. My dads 79 was so bad you could barely see how fast you were going, now its all bright and looks great

Re: Dash Lights for 1987 R-10

I watch a ton of You Tube video's on C 10s,,, I have seen a bunch of videos where others have upgraded their dash gauges,,, some of these look pretty sharp,, compared to the stock gauges that came with out favorite truck,,, since I am going to have the bezel off anyway,,, might be a good time to make this happen

I am looking for something like the ones in the video on this truck

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITbtrqm-bGE

Anyone know where I can get these,, or something like them?

Do LED's dim with the adjuster or are the simply on or off? Late night long drives I like to turn down the dash lights for less eye strain.

Re: Dash Lights for 1987 R-10

This is stated on superbrightleds.com website concerning LED dash bulbs:

Vehicle manufacturers do not typically release instrument panel bulb information making a lot of this information unavailable. You may head over to our Instrument Cluster & Gauge section to view typical instrument panel LED replacement bulbs. It is important to check your vehicle's instrument panel bulb to confirm the LED replacement bulb is appropriate.

LED bulbs WILL dim with your dash light intensity control.
