fans with aluminum shroud??
having a cooling problem. I have searched but no answer. I have a 69 with a 350. the shroud is missing and it has the wrong 5 blade fan with a clutch. radiator seems to be good. I want to install a set of electric fans that come with the aluminum shroud. looking for a set that will fit a factory style radiator.thinking this will make it cool betterand maybe cut down on some belt squeal by removing fan. any recommendations?? THANKS

Re: fans with aluminum shroud??
I'm not sure why you came to this conclusion. Is it the blade count that is in question? I've seen a couple threads which stated that the clutch fans used with A/C and/or H.D. cooling had more blades (7?). However, my 69 with A/C came new with a 5 blade clutch fan, shroud, and 4-row radiator. There has never been a cooling problem.

Re: fans with aluminum shroud??
my problem is I don't have a shroud. I have seen these fans that come complete with a nice looking aluminum shroud. they cost about the same as a factory style shroud when you figure in shipping. I don't know how well they fit on a stock radiator

How long since you had the radiator rotted out?

Re: fans with aluminum shroud??
I don't know the history of the radiator. it is flowing properly with fresh coolant . when I decide on which fan system to use I will flush it out good.

Re: fans with aluminum shroud??
If you are dead set on electric fans that's fine. However, a good clutch fan setup with factory shroud and clean radiator will never let you down. Even if the radiator 'Looks' good, it may well need a professional clean-out.

I bought a aftermarket a shroud from Wes at heartbeat, exact duplicate as OEM. Electric fan setups can be a PIA too. I usually stay stock on these trucks until the parts are not offered anymore or BS China stuff plays a factor. Then I modify or upgrade.

Re: fans with aluminum shroud??
my other 2 trucks have the stock fan and shroud and have no overheating problems. seeing that I have to replace the fan andshroud anyway I thought I could find some fans with the aluminum shroud that will fit the stock radiator. trying to find one that fits. just wanting to experiment with this truck a little.

Re: fans with aluminum shroud??
I would personally put the factory clutch fan and shroud on it, I bet it would cool just fine with those in place.
Failing that, I've had good luck with dual SPAL fan setups.

The factory cooling system on these trucks is a very good system. Also, if the belt is in good condition & properly adjusted it should not squeal. As a V-belt becomes worn, the bottom of the belt will contact the pulley (normally only the sides of the belt touch) and it will always squeal no matter how tight it is . |

Re: fans with aluminum shroud??
Check this out. http://www.speedcooling.com/1967-197...um-Shroud.html
Although I'm not using their fan set up, it's very similar to the one that was fabricated for my installation (See my build thread). I am using their radiatior, which is pretty much a direct fit replacement. I would give them a call and see if the fan's and shroud is available for separately.
