No one seems to know much about those transmission, including me. I'd just go with a New Venture 4500. 5.61 first I believe, Overdrive 5th gear.

some of them had OD, i think the NP542 did. but there is next to no info on them on the web. the same is pretty much true for all obscure transmissions and transfer cases. you could upgrade to a Clark 5 speed from a medium truck that would be plenty strong.
