Has anyone used these bulbs in their dash
I want to up grade my dash bulbs from the 194's to 168's but don't want LED's because of the non-dimming issue. Surfing around I found these Philips on EBay and am wondering if anyone has them in their dash and how are they working out. They are little pricey at 6.50 a bulb. Also it says Bright White on them and I'm wondering if the blue tint on the bulb makes them have blue tinge when installed.

I was going to say "go for it!" But at $6 bucks a bulb, "WHY?" Those little 194's are a dime a dozen when you catch them on sale. And for the dash cluster twist in's I use one of of these with great results! https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...FQ2MaQodohkLZg

I don't believe 168s are LEDs are they? You should still be able to dim with them just fine, but they'll be brighter at full power than 194s. At least I HOPE that's right, I just bought a bucket of 168s!

168's are supposed to be 33% brighter than 194's. Where did you buy yours?

Tbone (Tom) is selling a bunch on the parts page - and he has the holders for them also. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=719807

Re: Has anyone used these bulbs in their dash
I look at dash lighting topics whenever they come up, as I am also interested. I think I would worry about 168's burning hotter than 194's and doing something to the plastic parts of the instrument panel.
When I search on Google, there is a surprising lack of evidence people have built a small micro controller or timer chip that takes the headlight switch rheostat voltage as input and outputs a pulse width modulation signal necessary to dim LED bulbs. It is amazing to me that I can't just Google and find one ready to purchase for a few bucks. That should take a small number of parts I would think. I guess I'll have to just experiment and build one. |
