Dash speakers and under seat speakers

Hello guys
I have a question. I don't know where to start looking for speakers for my underwear application and my dahs replacements. I like loud music and am looking for good speakers but must be reasonably priced. Any and all help is welcomed. Thanks

For under dash make a mount for 2 4" speakers. I like Polk audio.

Loud sounds obvious but it can be pretty subjective. Then there's how much bass you want. For loud bass there's no escaping an amplifier and subwoofer. A 10" subwoofer meant for small boxes may fit under the seat but can definitely fit behind the seat no problem. I'm skeptical on bass shakers and those powered 8" boxes sold by the likes of retro sound, I'd have to hear it in person before I fork over my cash.

For the rest of the speakers I agree with mounting some under the dash or getting some kick panel enclosures if you don't mind the looks. If you go under dash 4" would be easier but they can be finicky and definitely need some sort of high pass filter to survive. 5.25" and 6.5" have a better range of sound and are more robust. Having more speakers is louder so do some 6x9's behind the seats. Put them in some boxes (pretty cheap from and widely available) for better sound and easier mounting. I thought I saw somewhere on the board someone selling boxes or something to mount speakers in the corners of the cab as well, something to maybe look into. If that's not loud enough then run them off an amplifier, I prefer an external amp just for the clearer sound which is more evident as the volume increases vs just running of the receiver in the dash.

I've been out of mobile audio look for awhile, the system in my daily is 10yrs old now. There is stuff that outperforms it's price but you definitely get what you pay for. Polk, JL audio, Focal, certain Kicker and Sony models I have been a fan of.

I've gotten great sound from placing small shelf speakers under the seat. This has been a while so don't even know if ADS is still around, but other companies made them. I left enough wire so when on long trips I could put them on the sloped part of the floor against the kick panels facing me. Doesn't get any better than that, IMO. I could also set them outside on a saddle box or bedside for got sounds outside. The last good system I had used Boston Acoustic and Polk speakers.

I have a set of the shallow box speakers you are talking about , they are junk . I bought some 6x9 s and a couple boxes to replace them , and they are 10 times better sounding

I thought he was looking for some subwoofer shorts.
I recommend some form of dash speaker as music sounds more natural when you hear if coming from in front of your body. Even if you have other sources remember that humans are naturally accustomed to facing sounds.

Seems like the bigger issue for great overall sound in that small volume space is not a matter of pure power, but rather frequency distribution. The bass frequencies are bendy and flow easily - they can come from anywhere (like under the seat), but the mid-range stuff needs more direct application, and the highs bend very little and don't travel well - so they need to aim more toward the face/ear to be heard well.

I am working on a design for a rack that will hold the source machine and tweeter types above and in front of the dash (and still keep the 4 speed shifter free) AND that can be moved from truck to truck. If his core unit works out, I can mount mid speakers in kick panels/door panels and a woofer underseat in each truck, and move/plug-in the rack unit for any truck. Just a brainstorm.

agree that high end , tweeters , should be dash level or close to head level , line of sight with ears is best , subs can go anywhere , Hey share with the neighbors , mount um under the bed

I'd do this if I had not gone the route I did..

get the kick panels that house speakers.. brothers/lmc/custom sound sell them..
they hold 6.5" speakers..
now get 6.5" seperates or co-axis I like seperates as you can put the tweeter where you want.. then put 2) 4" in the center dash.. midrange speaker (not price but sound)
parts express is a good source . Then put a 10" sub under the seat..
wire the head unit the dash to the front speaker leads, the rears to the kick panels.. and the sub out rca to the sub or amp for the sub..
done..


My truck already had the doors cut, and until I replace them the set up is..

6x9 3 ways in rear lower door.
6.5" seperates in the kicks.. tweeters above the a/c vents (dash already cut for oversized switches ,so these filled those spots) The center dash 2)4" mid range drivers I used 8 ohm speakers here instead of the 4 ohm that is the normal car audio because the sound will bounce off the windshield and this will balance it from being louder than the other speakers.. without using a fader or amp gain control.. .
When the tank goes, the back will have one 8" mid bass driver and one 12" sub..
I have cab corner brackets/speaker mounts for when the tank goes, so the speakers in the doors can be moved..
Problem you will have is the sub.. Will show you every rattle or loose fitting part in the cab of the truck,, and if you are like me, will drive you nuts..

I do not like the all in one sub in a box with amp.. Things amps don't like is vibrations and heat.. and most are flat 8" subs in them..
but they do fit the bill if you just want some mid bass..

I used some 4" speakers. 2 of them and made my own holder for them. And yes you can hear them very well! They made a hugh differance in the quality of the sound system in my 71. I tweeked the metal so it would stay in place and then added a peice of black foam around the top of it.

I'll say, do not waste your money on the custom audio sound dash speaker. Mine didn't last a week before it started popping and sounding like garbage. Now I'm here looking for 2 4" speakers to put in it's place.
