quadrajet?
i have lately been wanting to go with a quadrajet carb on my 82 k10 and the only two carbs that i have found are the Edelbrock Quadrajets and the ones made by Jet. right now i am just running a 1405 edelbrock, but i have always loved the way that the secondarys on the q-jet feel when they kick in, and also i can tune the edelbrock to make my truck run not to rich or too lean but as far as making it perform better to what i like, none of the rod and spring changes seem to change anything. so therefore i want to go back to a q-jet, and it seems from what i read that u are the only other person that likes them. i guess what i am asking is if of the two q-jets above, would one be better than the other, and do they have adjustable idle mixture screws, or are they plugged off like some of the factory q-jets. sorry for the long post thanks to anyone with some info for me. chevyforever

he said that if he were to do it again, he would get the jet qjet like what i'm getting.
just because its already tuned so much for performance.(and the price me thinks) |

Swervin is not the only q-jet lover, there are quite a few of us. Like ocbaud stated, Jet offers different stages of modifications to suit your specific needs. The Edelbrock carbs have not been worked over to the same extent.

If I am going to run a carb, all I would run was a Q-Jet.

I don't think one is better than the other. One is in stock form although will work great on any engine. I modded my 1904 to make it perform to my expectations and hit hard. The Jet carbs have already had most of the mods done. I guess one is probably better for folks who are not the best at performance tuning. You won't go wrong with either one. The Jet Q-jet is cheaper in price over the 1904. I decided to go with the 1904 for the simple reason of I prefer to do my own tuning. Tuning on these things is a lot of the fun to me.
As for the idle mixture screws yes, they adjustable.

sounds good to me, i think that i am gonna get me an Edelbrock q-jet because i am one of those that actually enjoys tuning a carb even though i fix fuel injected vehicles all day at work, i just got my new edelbrock catalog and it shows the different jets, rods and whatnot to get it just right for what i am running,, let the fun begin.

Check http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/garage_drivetrain.htm
Look in the Air & Fuel Delivery section. There are 4 articles on Q-jet tuning. http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/drivetrain/myqjet.htm is one I wrote about my 1904 tuning. Might save you some time and money on tuning yours.

thanks swervin, lots of good info in both of those links given in your last post. i do however live at 5600 ft elevation so that will mix things up just a little, i wish i lived down lower cuz then i could make more horsepower. i've got family in salisbury,NC and i have only been there once in my life, all i can say is there are tons and tons of trees. happy tuning to me
