Old Truck For Sale
Drove past this a few times before I had to stop and look. Studebaker Champ, literally everything original. For sale sign says it's a '61. Seller said it had a 296, engine looks clean except fuel filter is full of rust and grit, bad fuel tank from sitting. Orig 2bb carb, and FACTORY A/C. It's a beauty, just wanted to share with the class.

Re: Old Truck For Sale
I think they used the Lark front end for the Champ pickup, by the time this rolled out yhey were almost out of business anyway, so they reused a lot of body parts. After talking ti the guy and seeing it up close, I doubt he'd take less than 15k for it.

Re: Old Truck For Sale
Studebaker made the trucks that have been said (by Patton I think) to have won WWII. We gave 600,000 of them to the Soviet Union to fight the Germans. Not to mention the ones that carried our war effort once we arrived. They made horse drawn vehicles before going into automotive stuff...
https://www.google.com/search?q=stov...ker+ww2+trucks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGmp2HQ69Qc The Russians and the US have modelled modern trucks on the WWII 2.5 ton dual rear axle all (10) wheel drive monsters. Since so many were made, the Russians, Americans, and people all over Europe still have the things. Sort of like vintage Jeeps. Last edited by franken; 10-27-2016 at 08:31 PM. |

Re: Old Truck For Sale
I don't remember seeing one with the stepside bed before. There are two of them around here that show up at the local cruise in's but they both have the wide beds. BTW, anyone recognize the wide bed on the yellow truck? That was a 1958-1960 Dodge bed, the design was sold to Studebaker when Dodge changed styles in 1961.

Re: Old Truck For Sale
Technically, Dodge sold the tooling to Studebaker. The stepside bed was already 10 years old. That and the chassis didn't get an improvement with the new cab.

Re: Old Truck For Sale
Actually, that style stepside bed on the white truck first appeared on Studebaker trucks in 1948. It was fairly advanced for the time as it was a double wall bed, something that Ford, Chevy, and Dodge didn't have for a long time after that.
