Dana 44 rear axle ID
So I found my axle seals are leaking and I am looking for some parts to fix them but I have seem to hit a snag and need some help on which parts to buy. My truck has Dana 44 both front and rear. I know our trucks came with 44s in the front but not in the rear. It's obvious that the rear was off a different vehicle because I can see where the old U bolts and shocks mounts were. I ran the BOM and it says they are from 1976. Only vehicle I can find with this axle in that year is an International scout. Odd thing is that they came with 5 lug axles and this one has 6 lug axles. Any thoughts on which seals and bearings to get?

Yes I'm sure. The housing is stamped 44-1 and from the pictures on google it's definitely a 44.

Re: Dana 44 rear axle ID
Try looking at a Jeep J10 pickup or possibly a Wagoneer from the 70's.

Re: Dana 44 rear axle ID
I've been trying to find info on my Dana 44 as well. I think I found the Mother-Load of data!
Your numbers, or what they call "Bill of Material" looks to be 603706 1. If this is correct then it looks like it's a 1976 Dana-44. The entire pdf can be viewed here: http://tinyurl.com/jptmkjy Or if you prefer to search the Title is "Dana-44_1967-1978.pdf" |

Re: Dana 44 rear axle ID
Thanks for the info guys. I bought a Set10 from Yukon gear. Found out they were not the correct parts once I got in there. Ended up measuring the seals and found a set at napa. We will see if it holds or not.
Also the ring and pinion for the rear had 1967 dates stamped in them. Still trying to figure out what brackets were hacked off the axle. You can see where the welds were in the pictures under the shocks. Red |
