just got a 65 GMC

I just bought a 65 GMC swb and I am wondering how you figure out what model this truck is! It is a basic truck, 6cyl, three on the tree, stepside, no power, just a truck. So is it a 1000, 1500, or what? Chevrolets are much easier to identify.!!!!!

Hotrodder:
Have you looked under the dash at the plate on the left kick panel? Also, what is your VIN on the plate inside the door frame at the top of the drivers' door? The info you are looking for will be in those two places.
regards,
Steve

I6? V6?

If you can provide a vin I will decode it for you.

Re: just got a 65 GMC

Thanks for all the help. The truck is a 6cyl. vin# on the title is :
11001PF41886A. I can't get the left door open right now there is another truck right next to it to see what the tag says. The truck is a one owner sold new about 25 miles from here. It is a project for sure, but will run . Get some pics out later

I understand it is a 6 Cylinder, What I am wondering is if it's an INLINE 6 or a V6.

Here's the vin decode:

10: Half Ton

01: 115 inch wheelbase (Shortbed)

P: Manufactured in Pontiac, Michigan

F: 65 or 66 model year. No differentiation between them in the vin.

3188: was the 3188th unit to roll off the manufacturing plant.

A: 6000 pound GVW

To be sure it's a 65, the only engine option would be the 305E or I believe a 230 I6.

66 has the option of the 351 v6.

Re: just got a 65 GMC

yep it is a straight 6, always had Chevrolets, so the V6 thing wasn't a factor there, anyway thank you to all for the info.
