What is the correct red interior paint color for a 68?

I'm replacing the three on the tree column with an auto and need to paint it before the install. The truck is factory white with red interior. The only red paint inside is the column and it appears more orange than the seat belts, arm rest, etc but, that could be all these years in the Vegas sun.

I believe that from the factory, the column would have been black if tilt and body color (white) if solid.

That said, red would probably look good. Do you have an interior pic? Someone might be able to match it that way.

non-tilt and the wheel and column are definitely factory red(orange). I'll get some pics up.

That's pretty cool, I've never seen one like that. PO might have swapped it from a red truck, or it could be factory. I'm sure one of the more knowledgeable guys will chime in soon.

My 70 c10 is factory white on red interior too. My non-tilt column is red. Definitely came from the factory that way. Dont know the paint code to match but I'm interested for if I ever redo it.

OK, after taking a look under the cap I see red.



I found this paint code sheet posted by jocko, so it looks like the correct code is 1573.

Cool, now that I think about it. The column on my grandfather's truck is interior color (saddle), too.

Not sure where I came up with that brain fart earlier. Glad you found the code. Looks like a good match.

The paint chart posted is probably an exterior paint code. My 68 on the SPID stated Red Trim, and nothing else. White exterior with Bright red interior was factory and that's what I went back to. The paint colors are 1968 interior Dupont colors.

Thanks. My cab is white inside but my dash pad and seat belts appear to be the same color as yours so I'm sure that is the color I need for the column

Painting Parts Red color
GM 56-71 544 Light Red (2411 IE)


Duplicolor 1607 Red is a spray can and is very close to the original red. It has just a little more orange to it. Good luck to you.
