Which HEI distributor is this?
Hey all, my 72 K10 has an HEI distributor installed by previous owner(s)...
Can someone identify it for me? What year or are they all the same? Looking to get a spare module to throw in the glovebox. Thanks

There is really only a couple of modules and you can tell which one you have by taking the cap off and looking at the wire configuration on the module itself.

Re: Which HEI distributor is this?
that looks like a standard HEI,from late 70's or early 80's I always keep a spare module and a spare coil, have had both go bad.....I had one HEI in my 81 Suburban that was always going through coils, finally just got rid of that HEI for a new one from summit,no more problems in years.

Re: Which HEI distributor is this?
Looks like the power lead to the distributor is too small a gauge. The yellow one is your power wire? and the blue for the tach. The factory yellow wire is attached to resistance wire that went to the old coil. If this is true you should upgrade the power wire directly from the fuse panel with a heavier gauge , I used 10ga. Lots of info about this on this forum.

Re: Which HEI distributor is this?
I have a Chevrolet HEI that was given to me for my 1969 truck and it looks like that. I took my truck up to my local Chevrolet dealer to get some parts, and the parts counter guys called in their expert who has been around for many years, saying John knows about those old trucks. He was good at figuring out obscure stuff like what grommets to order for the PCV and flame arrester and various other parts I was buying from them that day. I also wanted a distributor cap and rotor, and I asked him about my distributor. He said those HEI distributors like that for non-computer trucks were from 1976 to 1980. Metaldoc has a good idea about checking your wiring and if you have the old resistor wire, replace it. Here is how I upgraded the wiring on mine: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=708975
distributor cap ACDelco ACD#D336X GM# 19110931 distributor rotor ACDelco ACD#D448X GM# 19110934 spark plug wire set ACDelco ACD#608D GM# 12043728 (allows stock spark plug wire routing) |

As a side note I used GM HEI parts for my 1980 CJ7 304 instead of the motorcraft ones. Hid the module inside the motorcraft housing to pass emissions...
