Need advice on removing steering wheel hub
This is my first crack on removing my steering wheel and I'm stuck at the hub. Do I need a steering wheel puller to remove the hub? Thanks in advance on any help!

Re: Need advice on removing steering wheel hub
Of course you need a steering wheel puller, you always need a steering wheel puller...use the puller in the straight across 5/16 bolt holes and pull it. You didn't have to remove the wheel from the hub to do this. You can use a harmonic balance puller if you get some 5/16 course thread bolts and flat washers the right length.
Nice wheel by the way... |

Re: Need advice on removing steering wheel hub
I would always recommend using a steering wheel puller. I know other have their special ways of removing them, but I don't recommend any of them.

Re: Need advice on removing steering wheel hub
or the two person way..
put the nut back on but not tight, just flush with the shaft end.. and while one person is pulling on the wheel , the other gives the shaft/nut a good smack with a hammer.. pop it's loose, take nut off and remove.. same idea that works on tie rods and ball joints.. |

Re: Need advice on removing steering wheel hub
You know I figured the same thing, bought one, got this far, hooked it up, and it came off so easy I'm positive I could've just pulled on it.

steering wheel pullers are way overrated I've removed thousands of steering wheels and hubs by myself without ever needing one// you just need to b able to outthink it

Re: Need advice on removing steering wheel hub
I've tried to outthink my column but it always ends up in a stalemate, just like our staring contents. I use a harmonic balancer puller with skinny bolts, but whatever works!

Re: Need advice on removing steering wheel hub
I don't like to stress out steering wheels by jerking on them too hard. It can cause cracks in the finish of the wheel. The puller saves those worries.

Re: Need advice on removing steering wheel hub
Puller's are cheap. They don't put stress on the wheel as mentioned.
