'84 Auto to Manual Swap Compatibility

I feel like I should be able to find this specific info on the interwebs, but I figured I would just ask it here as I have been coming up short. We are swapping out the 305 in my brother's '84 C10 for a 350 and he is interested in converting from auto to manual as well. What tranny model should we be looking for? What would have been a manual transmission that twas sold with it? Any info is GREATLY appreciated!

Re: '84 Auto to Manual Swap Compatibility

I swapped in a four speed standard in a 82 4 x4 that originally had a 700R4 auto overdrive. Just giving you a warning, this is a HUGE job.... and looking back now, don't think it was worth the effort. If you are serious about doing it, the first thing you need is a standard "donor" truck to supply all of the parts you need. Trans, cross member, clutch/brake peddle assembly under your dash, clutch linkages, springs, drive shafts, flywheel , metal "hump" on floor, speedo cable etc.... and I'm sure I missed a few things. Just my opinion, but if you really want a standard, find/buy one done at the factory.
