38" tall tires

Hey all, just wondering what size lift people are using on there 67-72 Blazer's/Truck, that will fit 38" tall tire's??

with out a lift you can squeeze 33X12.5, and with 3-4 you can get 35s. So I am guessing you need at least 6. Sorry don't have much expirence with the 38s

well obviously this can't be done without at least 4-6" of lift.
I was at a buddys place and we had his 38's off his truck.

2WDBlazer from florida is running 38's with 9" of lift.He has a pic of his blazer in his avatar.

A rule of thumb that I use is 1" of lift for every inch of tire over 30". Therefore, a 35" tire will typically require 5" of lift. Most people are running 6" lift, but a few are running 4" with some rubbing. A 38" tire should require 8" of lift. For our short wheelbases, I'd use a 6" suspension and 3" body, for 9" of total lift. Just my $0.02.

I'd say that Bluegoose's rule is about right. I'm running 35's with a 6" lift. My first K5 had 35's with a 4" lift - never got it offroad so I don't know if it rubbed. I'd say minimum of 8" for 38's. Even with that, you may have to trim the front fenders a little. The wheel width and offset have a lot to do with it too. If your running 12" wide wheels with very little rear offset, your tires are probably going to rub when you turn/flex.

I have 9 inches and true 38's. The PJ's are actually 38.2. I would say a minimum of 8 if you are doing it just for looks. Mine rubs under medium wheeling. I would recommend an 11 inch lift. 8 inch spring and 3 inch body if you want to wheel around decently. There are some pics around if you search. I don't have them handy.

I agree with you all. The biggest problem I had with 7" and 36x14.5x16.5 swampers was hitting the front of the rear wheel well. This was after flexing it pretty good. Some zero rates would probably solve this. Right now, I'm trying to find the time to finish the new lift on it. For the front I have some 6" Skyjacker springs and for the rear an ad-a-leaf, zero rate and a shackle reversal. The tires are 38x15.50x16 Swamper SSR's. I've done the front and have tons of room and should have plenty in the rear. After trying the new tires with the old lift I would have been fine with just the zero-rate recentering the rear wheel. Dang, should have bought 40inchers, lol

I tried them with 7 inches of lift but didn't flex them. I think with the rearend centered the only trouble you might run into is the front fender bucket. This all depends on how much actually lift you gain and what you plan on doing. It's kind of a crap shoot with lift and tires ect.

My plans are a 6" skyjacker or superlift, springs In the rear (no blocks)..
38x15.5x15 superswampers with a 6/4 back spacing. (all ready have them)

Also rear 4" shackle flip. (Home made Jobber)

Droping the front leaf spring mounts down 4". (That will give a 4" lift). So that will give me a total of 10" lift

It seems a 6" lift will work for street driving, but it will rub when it flexs.

I just ordered the skyjacker 8" system for my suburban. I will be running 37x12.50x17 SSR's on it. Should clear no problem. Of course they probably don't actually measure up to 37" though.

Hi all, well I bit the bullet today. I just order a 8" lift (leaf spring front & rear) for my 72 Blazer.. I can't wait to get it installed (hopefully this weekend)..

Surprisingly, really good. It has a little bit of bump steer, plans down the road is to do a cross-over steering.

I know its not a sports car, but how does it handle? Does it feel like its going to roll while going around a curve at 55-60?

How is your driveshaft angle? Are you getting any vibration at highway speeds? How about under power....any clanging?

Whats the height from the bottom of your bumper to the ground, I wouldn't mind putting a 8" on my 69, but it might be to tall for the lift law here in ohio.

Big J - Yeah it feels a little top heavy but, it's something I have to get used to.

Bluegoose972- The springs came with degree shims built in, the only vibration that I'm feeling is from the tires. Yes it is underpowered, but ok for a wore out 350. No clanging so far!

BIG_BLAZER86- Measured from lowest part of bumper it's sitting about 31 inches.
