Power steering bracket? Need help!

I have a 1966 Chevy C10. I put a V8 out of an 86 C10 in it. The engine was equipped with a/c compressor just above power steering pump. Now that I have it installed in my 66 I don't have the a/c compressor. The brackets I have bolt to the a/c compressor brackets. Also I have headers installed instead of the original exhaust manifolds. So the question is where do I get a bracket for the back stud on the power steering pump?

Re: Power steering bracket? Need help!

You are going to have to fabricate something. That is the problem with some of the long water pump accessory brackets. One accessory bracket will depend on another. If you had stayed with a short water pump, that would not be an issue.

Re: Power steering bracket? Need help!

Maybe check out item # 402L:
http://www.alangrovecomponents.com/S..._Long_Pump.htm
This bracket bolts to the front of the block and water pump boss. Mounts the pump in approximately the same position as the factory bracket without using the head or exhaust bolts allowing the use of headers. Works with most 1979 and earlier Saginaw pump applications. This bracket is for small block chevys with long water pumps.
Also sold here:

Re: Power steering bracket? Need help!

Thank you guys for the input. I'm going to show my ignorance here and ask a stupid question. Take in mind this is my first ever build. What does the water pump have to do with the power steering bracket? When you say long and short water pump...I didn't know I had a choice?? thanks again

Re: Power steering bracket? Need help!

I believe it puts the pulley in a different location away from the block to line up with a long water pump pulley.

Also you can read the link on this page under "pulley Requirement" and "Belt Routing Requirements" to learn more:

Re: Power steering bracket? Need help!

I would just measure to see if I had a long or short pump and then go on the Summit or Jegs web sight and see if you can find a bracket that will work. You can probably contact them and tell them your problem and they might be able to lead you in the right direction.

Re: Power steering bracket? Need help!

All trucks '72 and earlier with V8's came from the factory with short water pumps. The accessories mount differently and the pulleys are different.

I prefer to use the short water pump when possible in the '72 and earlier trucks, especially with a big block.

I don't know why I did not suggest Alan Grove, I usually do for engine accessrory mounting issues.

Re: Power steering bracket? Need help!

That looks like it should work. Just be sure to reduce the thickness of the spacer that goes between the bracket and head to compensate for the thickness of the bracket you make. That way the pulleys should still all line up.

Re: Power steering bracket? Need help!

One pictures shows the bracket before I cut the slot out which is where the bolt goes 63C20 was asking about. The other picture is the bracket installed.
