Bell huosing mounts

I have a 62 C10 that has the inline 6 in it. The PO has put a newer front cross member so the front motor mount is no longer there. I can mount the motor at the side of the block but I have the bell housing mounted to a cross member. I am switching to a 5 speed trans an was wondering if I need to eliminate the bell housing mounts and use a transmission mount. If I get rid of the BH mounts will the x member it was bolted to need to go away? As you can tell this is my first time attempting this type of modification. any one out there encountered this situation?

I agree. All trucks from '60-'72 had a crossmember mounted bellhousing with the trans hanging on the back.

If the I6 was a 235 or 261, you will need a bellhousnig for a '60-'62 with a V8, or a '63+ bellhousing with a hydraulic clutch conversion. I do make a booster bracket with the hydraulic clutch provisions if you decide to go with power brakes. There is a link to the for sale thread in my sig line.

you can install the side mounts along with the b/h mounts
63 - 66 trucks had their engines mounted that way with 4 point mounting. with this setup you do not use a rear trans mount. the trans will suspend quite handily

Thanks for the response's. I was not sure if the BH would handle the weight. this will make the trans swap a little easier.
I love how the people on this site share their wisdom.
Captain, your booster bracket is on my list. As soon as the trans is in the brakes are next.

I have a TKO-500 mounted to a the original cast iron bellhousing, but not the bellhousing mounts. I use the transmission mount on a homemade crossmember.

That is how tremic suggested I mount the trans. what did you do with the cross member that the BH mounts bolted to. did you remove it or just change the BH and leave it there? Did you post photos on this site?

The crossmember has to stay there, you just don't install the bellhousing mounting bushings. Here is a picture. Just build a tranny tailhousing crossmember that maintains the proper geometry.
I did remove the parking brake mechanism crossmember and installed a trick E-Stopp electric parking brake on the side frame, ran custom cables to the rear brakes.
