4x4 Frame swap 71for a 77
I'm thinking of changing out my frame on my 71 and going with a 77 frame. Good/bad idea? Anybody done this before? Any help would be great.
Thanks, Kevin |

I believe any of the 73 up frames will need to be cut and welded to match the 72 down wheelbase. Not positive about short bed but long bed, definitely. Not impossible but it is a chore. I was considering this when starting on the rebuild & conversion of my 72 2WD to 4X4.

On my truck I didnt cut the frame, Made some body mounts, the cab & bed are about 2 1/2"s from each other but I think it works out better.... if you start twikin the frame the bed looks like it could hit the cab.. I think the space between the cab & bed are about 1" or 1 1/2" so its not to far off....It really isnt that bad of a job really.

I've seen several around my area that have been done. It definitely can be done. I've always passed on them only because I was looking for an original truck.
