Re: DIY Disc Brake Conversion
Dave,
Thanks for all of the information. It will save me quite a bit of money sticking with the ball bearings. |

Re: DIY Disc Brake Conversion
This may save allot of time or aggravation: I have a 1/2 ton, so I don't need this, but I'm aware many with 3/4 ton would like discs.

Re: DIY Disc Brake Conversion
Anyone have updates for this mod?
I have a question for anyone that can answer: I am fitting my axle under my truck. I put the hub back onto the spindle and tightened the castle nut. I have tons on play in the hub and it will not sit on the spindle properly. What could be making it sloppy? Could the back plate have been holding it on more snug? Thanks Nate |

Re: DIY Disc Brake Conversion
OK thanks! I was wondering if Nick or anyone else had actually finished this modification and had pictures.

Re: DIY Disc Brake Conversion
I know this is an old thread but we now have a rear kit in the works soon to be available for 47-59 HO52 HO72 that has slide on drums. We have the test parts in, we will have to tweak them for the final version but it did allow us to do proof of concept. It will work on HO52 HO72 with slide on drums. It allows you to unbolt a rear brake assembly from a 2003 up to about 2010 2500HD and bolt it onto your stock rear end. It keeps the 2003 disc brake, parking brake and rotor without changing rear wheel track. You use your stock hub.
Here are a few pictures. Rear disc swap Rear Disc swap It will be about 3- 4 weeks before its ready. But it is on the top of the work list for us. We do have a front kit and booster kit available now at www.hollisterroad.com |

Re: DIY Disc Brake Conversion
so from what i have read so far there are NO bolt on items i can purchase to do a front disc brake conversion on my 51 3100 6 lug? I see alot of customization (don't have tools to fab up items) but i am looking for something bolt on. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I would like to do a new brake master cylinder as well and i'm sure a proportional brake valve

Re: DIY Disc Brake Conversion
Yes i know CCP. PoL. And others. My buddy has a 51 Ford and literally he bought brackets from a gentleman online which came with a full list of parts of what calipers to buy, what rotors to buy, what brake hoses to buy, what master cylinder to buy, with part numbers. It made it simple and very inexpensive. But I have not come up with anything for this.

There are plenty of 6 lug kits out there, as stated earlier in my thread, this conversation is for making an 8 lug conversion which now seems to have a vendor that makes a kit. I attached a photo of what I searched..... |
