Question 700 woes

I have a 84 GMC that I have just replaced the battle scarred th350c with a 700r4. When I shift from park to R it is smooth as silk. Go on down to OD and KLUNK After th noise the tranny is engaged but won't shift out. Can go all the way to low and don't get a noise and can manually shift without noise or slippage. Is it valve body, govenor, or scrap metal. I'm almost to the edge. Help

Dang, I just talked to a tranny mechanic a few nights ago and he asked if my truck did this, since it didn't I didn't remember what he said the cause could be.

Do you have a 4wd?

Sorry I can't be of any help, my tranny is in the shop right now so I know how it feels. At least this'll bump your post to the top so maybe someone else can help you

Oh and welcome to the board
