6lug dana 60 rear
posting over on this side cause I believe this rear is more common to the 67-72 trucks
so came across this axle and have the chance to buy at a good deal...it came factory in a 63 gmc 1/2 ton...6lug dana 60 with 354 gears and powerlock....all break stuff is missing...from my researching i find that this axle is quite rare......the main reason i want it is cause the locker and gear ratio....anyone have much experience with this axle?.......curious on how to find break parts for it......nobody seems to believe me when i tell them what it is...lol also is this worth picking up for the price of $200?, I will be replacing my eaton ho32 with the 390 gears for this one

Re: 6lug dana 60 rear
Definitely worth $200. I have never seen one with 5-lug. I think they stopped offering it by '71. Brakes will be tough, but I'm sure you can make something work off of the axle flange if nothing off the backing plates. I think if you can find a drum off a 12-bolt or 14-bolt 6-lug semi-floater the rest will come together. Then there is always make brackets and run discs. I've been looking for that same rear for my '67 GMC SWB project. Rare

Re: 6lug dana 60 rear
I have the exact same rear in my '65. It too came out of a '63 GMC but I have no idea the drivetrain that was in front of it from the factory. Going by memory here (25 years ago) but I'm pretty sure I used Chevy 12-bolt backing plates on mine. Away from the house for the next week but I can pull a drum and have a look when I get back if need. This rear is also used in '68 - '70 big block 1/2 tons with a factory stick, Leaf and coil spring applications.

Re: 6lug dana 60 rear
I have the dana 60 stock in my 68 bb 2wd truck with an auto, from what ive been told it's pretty rare. Mine is also coil rear suspension, that came stock in my truck, even confirmed it with the original/2nd owner

Re: 6lug dana 60 rear
A more common axle that is a bigger 6 lug is gm made a 14bolt semi-floating axle in like the early 90s in some of the 2500s. Not quite sure of all the trucks it came in but got one in my yard out of a 91 c2500 pick up.

Re: 6lug dana 60 rear
^^^ Light duty 2500, which is really a heavy half...6 lug not 8. They are mostly found in Z71s. All these are leaf spring, of course
