Key question for those with a factory bedside tool box
Does the tool box key match the doors and ignition Or is it supposed to match the glove box door lock or did it have a stand alone key from the factory?

Hopefully others have some input on this but I have never been able to prove how they were keyed. They would have had the lock installed at the factory since they were an integral part of the bed when assembled, but almost all of the ones I have worked on used the GM oval head key blanks, which would not work with any of the door or ignition lock cylinders on the trucks. I know some people on here have said that the rectangular ignition/door key also fit the tool box on their truck, so obviously some came keyed the same. Same thing with glove box locks.... Maybe it had something to do with which plant they came from, I don't know. LockDoc

Found this here on the site. I believe it states that it has a stand alone key. Still would like to hear it from someone who has it on their truck...

Re: Key question for those with a factory bedside tool box
Mine were all a separate key, but who knows if that was original. Those locks caught heck in that location.

Re: Key question for those with a factory bedside tool box
As someone who's having their trunk rekeyed to the ignition as a convenience right now, remember I'm not the first. I bet they normally came with their own key but that it could be rekeyed to the ignition key.

Re: Key question for those with a factory bedside tool box
I have a 72 Chevy that I purchased from the original owners grand daughter. I have no reason to think that the lock has been changed. It is a different key than the doors and ignition.

Does anyone know of an OEM parts supplier for the tool / storage box option?
