Very interesting. I thought they were 3/8-16 thread and I screwed on some chrome acorn nuts as they were the only ones I could find that looked the same shape as originals. Did I ruin the threads?

I know some folks have used chrome examples with a similar appearance successfully but don't recall any specifics on the threads. These chrome examples are available on the motorcycle market. The closest example I could find locally were the metric examples I mentioned. There are threads here that discuss these acorn nuts in more detail.
