Grille trim questions.

What are some ways to remove the orginal vinyl tape off the middle grille trim? What color have people use on the Chevy emblem in the center of the grille?

I have done a few of these. I soak them in Goof Off Pro Stripper, usually over night. Most of the tape will come right off. Then you'll just have to get the little bit of leftover glue. Use chrome polish, and they are as good as new. Here's a few I have done.
Now with mine, I retapped it red to match the truck.

For the Bow tie, I have done one Red. And then I restored several, as close to the original gold as I could.

It came in a roll, I had to cut it to size for the molding. I just measured it and then used a straight edge and cut it with a very sharp razor.

A heat gun (hot hair dryer?) will help you remove the tape. Lacquer thinner or similar solvent will soften the glue up.
I painted my moldings Silver the same as the Grille & Headlamp bezels (with a little flattener in the clear).
I never really cared for the colored inserts...they are in the middle of Silver & have no real reason to be the body color. Some colors are worse than others in my opinion. Lorne

What did you use to clean the chrome before you put the vinyl? Any tips on putting the vinyl on.

I polished them with Brasso and then the center I wiped it with alcohol before installing the tape.
Just be patient. There are some how to videos on youtube. I watched a few before trying it. And it took a few try before getting it perfect.

I just walked by 2 trucks in my local junkyard that had the full set of trim and bow tie on them but the plastic grolls were broken. Also found a set of trim laying inside of a cab.
Didn't find anything I was looking for lol

Yeah missed up 2 times with the vinyl from bubbles. Gonna cut down the squeegee to fit in the molding next time.

Yeah it took me a couple of tries too. Good thing we get plenty of vinyl in that roll. And will definitely get that cutter, thanks for the info.

Yeah that was nice having extra strips. I used some thick copier paper to set it up for the width need for the molding.

I'll measure the ones I have when I get off. I think depending on year the width might differ.
