Cab door alignment trouble

Any tips on getting this door to align? Im working on my 66 and trying to get all the rusted out panels redone and Im finally getting close but could use some help. After hanging the driver door to get a rocker panel aligned I couldnt quite get it aligned in the bottom right corner of the door to cab. If I put some pressure on it it lines up better.

Then I remembered that most of the door to cab alignments were off to begin with. Before I had did the tear down I took reference pics to show not only before an after but to also get panel alignment references.

Oh those are all ways a head scratcher to me! I have the same problems and hope a retired body man chimes in. I'll be watching. Good luck!

You may get a better response over in the paint and bodywork forum.

Re: Cab door alignment trouble

I had the same problem with my 62 after I put a new rocker on. I finally had to take it to a body shop to get the right alignment.

Typical problem. Looks like the entire door needs to go up a little. Get body line at rear of do first. I would shut the door completely and the see what it needs. Then get a piece of 2x4 and lay flat and gently tap it in. U may need to get a little more aggressive depending on how it reacts.

Re: Cab door alignment trouble

Someone who has probably owned at least a dozen of these trucks told me they are all warped. Brute force may be necessary but as a disclaimer don't damage it.

Re: Cab door alignment trouble

Thanks guys for checking in, I will definitely raise it up some next time I hang it. Took it off for a bit while take care of a few other things. I stopped by a guy's custom shop I have used for years to help me and showed him the pics. His suggestion involved taking a wood block in the door jamb about where the latch is and use those tie town ratchet straps to loop vertically around the edge of the door and ratchet it it real tight an leave it a bit. Loosen it up and see if it springs back out, if it does keep snugging it up and see if that works. I'll let you all know if it works, might be next week till I can.

These doors are a pain in the arse to get aligned, especially alone.

Re: Cab door alignment trouble

Amazing how just re hanging the door got it lined up! I had to get the rocker fitted first and then hung the door and taped 1/8 inch thick cut off paint stir sticks into the door jamb to set the gap and after a few tries got this.
