Can a 71-72 front end be installed in a 57?

Can anyone tell me if a front cross member from a 71/72 be easily installed in a 57 frame? I'm considering a project truck and would like to go the 5 lug/disc brake front end on it.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks.

i thought you were talking about the front clip!!! lol. i plan on going with the camaro sub on my '46 plymouth. if it works out alright i might consider doing my dad's '65 suburban. i've heard that it's actually pretty simple. some assembly required.lol.

The reason I want to go with a truck cross member is because I would have one readily available - either one from a 72 or one from an 88 1/2 ton.

Does anyone know if this is practical, difficult, whatever?

Thanks.

i dont know how difficult it is but my neighbor bought my old 72 parts truck to do that with, he wanted disc brakes and a posi for his 56 truck, he just took both frames to a shop and said i want this done, looks good now he has to wait on the body to get done

I'm sure it could be done but would possibly need to be narrowed. I had a 52 with a nova or camaro sub and it was a perfect match up with the existing frame rails.

With a plasma cutter and welder, it can be done. The Camaro/Chevelle clip would be a little eaiser though, not by much, but a little.

i put a mustang 2 front end under my old 57 chevy p/u. easier than the camaro clip cuz you don`t have to cut the frame. you can get parts off of a mid 70`s mustang at a junkyard cheap and get rack and pinion steering. someone makes a rotor that fits the m2 spindle with a 5x5 lug pattern.
