idetifying part on 6 cyl. 250

need help identifying this part and the proper name so that i can find one. some type of choke device.

Disconnect the top of the rod from the carb. If you can move the rod up and down easily, you don't need a new choke coil, you need a new mechanic.
The choke coil is a bi-metallic strip of metal that is wound in a coil. It holds/pushes the rod up/down as the engine heats up/cools down.
The tin covering the coil is often called a heat-stove to concentrate and retain the heat.

The choke coils very, very seldom go bad. Bad ones are almost always the result of some physical abuse by someone.

And you adjust it by bending the rod between the coil and the choke lever.
