Trouble assembling fleetside wood bed.

I am putting new bedsides on my 68 fleet side with a wood bed, the old rear support is 3 1/4 wide and the slot it goes into is barely 2 3/4. I can't find any information that there were ever different parts. Has anyone had trouble assembly a bed for this reason?

Re: Trouble assembling fleetside wood bed.

I recall buying all new cross supports and found the manufacturer/distributor getting cheap when the support rail only extended to the wheel well tub bolt (only that one). The one from 1967 extended all the way to the outside edge of the fleet side. Pissed about that one so I went to plan B, make my own.
Is your bed side new or is it the wood which is new?

I had the same problem with an aftermarket bedside. Look to see how the rear pocket his spot welded in. You should be able to see where it's not in straight. I have not use the bedside yet so I have not changed it. I think Hartrod repaired his.

The pocket looks straight but too small for the rear cross sill to fit in. I would compare it to my old sides but my box was not assembled correctly and had been pieced together with parts so anything goes. I am having to match up the pieces with pictures from the internet. I figure if I don't see an obvious solution I will modify the pocket till it fits

Here are some pictures of my rear cross sill, can anyone tell if the cross sill looks right? If it is I will just modify the bed pocket.Name: rear cross sill.JPG
