Re: 235 or 250
I'm guessing that you mean 230, not 235.
The 235 was used from 1950-1962. Then it was replaced with the 194/230/250/292 family. Here's some casting numbers. Might be other websites with better info: http://www.castingnumbers.info/site/...cks/t/Inline-6

Re: 235 or 250
Those two engines are very different. Easy way to discern them is the 235 has 2 large freeze plugs on the driver side, the 230/250 blocks have 3.
Quick way to tell a 230 from 250 is remove a spark plug and look at the pistons. 230 has flat tops with four valve reliefs, the 250 has dished pistons.

Re: 235 or 250
The 235's had two studs with acorn nuts holding the valve cover on. The 230/250 engines had bolts on the perimeter of the valve cover holding it on.
Correct? GRX |

Partly. The 216 and older 235s had the two center studs. Was changed to 4 outer bolts some time in 1954.

Re: 235 or 250
The 235 also has a single lifter cover. The 194/230/250/292 engines have two side by side covers. I believe the 292 has slightly larger covers.
216/235's have only 4 exhaust ports. The 250 has 6 exhaust ports.

Re: 235 or 250
GregR: So you have a 230 or 250. One way to check is to find the ''Dress number'' stamped into a machine pad behind the distributor. The 2 or 3 letters at the end can be decoded. I.E.: F0626UH = Flint, MI, June 26th, UH -=292 1968. Find these numbers and get back to us.
It will be easier than pulling the head and mic-ing the bore. 68Stepbed: The 292 L6 has much larger side panel lifter covers -- 6'' tall. The 230/250 covers are just under 4'' iirc.
