Aftermarket X Brace
I have been looking around (in case I decide to go this route) of installing an aftermarket X brace. I thought Porterbuilt had made one, however I don't see anything listed on their website.
Has anyone come across aftermarket X braces for our year truck or had any direct experience with putting one in? I am not looking to make my own. Thanks.

Re: Aftermarket X Brace
www.progressiveautomotive.com has one that's tube. You can use it on a boxed or unboxed frame. installs easy. I've used several of these

Re: Aftermarket X Brace
Sounds like you have some experience with these braces. How much of a difference do they make?

Re: Aftermarket X Brace
When you box the frame and use this kit it takes out almost all the flex. we picked up the top frame with a forklift from the rear and it didn't dip at all. I picked up the left front wheel 2 inches off the ground and the right was almost off the ground.

dwcsr: that's a nice one, it braces the cab supports well
i realize focusedontheprize doesn't want make his own, but you could buy a welder and the steel for that price thou with as much cutting, fitting and welding needed you can fab your own for a tenth of that price i have less than $20 in this one and has the same support for cab mounts and trans mount

pluses are that its preassemble. comes ups, you could install in half a day if its your first one. Making your own, find tubing go get tubing, buy the tubing bend cut cope joints, recut parts that are to long or short, one day shot, make tubes tack up fit and weld. another day. I don't want to spend two days on a x member and save only a $100 . Were I short on money and long on tubing and time I'd make my own. |

Re: Aftermarket X Brace
Thanks guys. I do have a welder, however this is something I would be worth spending the money on. Decisions decisions.

Re: Aftermarket X Brace
I was gonna buy that kit from progressive it looks really nice. Decided on a full loop and boxed the frame should be good enough for me.

Re: Aftermarket X Brace
I think it would be pretty easy to make something similar to the progressive kit using square tuning and still have a strong braced frame. No bender needed.
