mild 350 build what to expect?
Hey guys, doing a mild 350 build here and was wondering what to expect
This is going to be my daily driver, but i want some oomph if i feel like it. i have a performer intake and an edlebrock 1406 600cfm carb. Im planning on going with some vortec heads 170cc intake w/64cc combustion chambers. The cam im looking at is the comp xe262H: Duration @ 0.006": 262° / 270° Duration @ 0.050": 218° / 224° Max Lift w/ 1.5RR: .462" / .469" Lobe Separation: 110° Lobe ID#'s: 5442 / 5201 i was just wondering what to expect/thoughts on this set up. Thanks! |

Re: mild 350 build what to expect?
my engine is not exactly like yours but it is a similar setup. I have the Comp HE260 with a Performer RPM intake, Quadrajet, and long tube headers. it sounds good at idle although the 262 does more agressive. I can tell you from being happy with my setup that you will be very happy with yours.
are you starting from nothing as in no engine and buying parts to build one or are you rebuilding an engine?

Re: mild 350 build what to expect?
A lot of people say that a Quadrajet is better for street use, better mpg, more reliable and make just as much horsepower. On my 350 I have an 800 CFM Quadrajet with electric choke.
You probably know, but the Vortec heads require a coolant bypass and widening of coolant channels etc when used on a Gen1 350 block. Have you read up on what your plans are there? |

http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/148...ds-valve-lift/ Btw, is this the engine your talking about -running .460 lift on iron vortecs? Would assume they have machined those heads for that money. http://www.chevrolet.com/performance...ck-ram-jet-350 Last edited by LukeC10; 05-30-2017 at 08:27 PM. |

Re: mild 350 build what to expect?
The ramjet has .481" lift on the exhaust. .420" lift is the factory spec for a 96-98 vortec truck camshaft, not the limit of the head. That article is just plain wrong.

Here is another article with pictures of actual head measurements - so this particular vortec they have their hands on cannnot handle more than a .420 lift; "The stock Vortec iron head will not tolerate more than 0.440-inch lift. We measured our stock iron heads right out of the box and the retainer-to-seal clearance was only 0.470-inch. Subtract the standard 0.050-inch clearance, this leaves only enough room for a 0.420-inch lift cam. " http://www.powerperformancenews.com/...benchtop-mods/ |
