My 65 Stepper build thread.

I thought I would start a build thread for the 65 stepper I had a few years ago. Its was mostly this way when I bought it. I made some mods to it while I had it.

Here is one of the pic from the original ad.

The truck already had the surf rat rod truck theme so I kept that going.

A PO did this C notch, tank and compressor install for the rear air bags.

The guy that sold me the truck also gave me this fuel tank. I used it when I moved the compressor and installed a different air tank.

This what was under the fuel tank.

The truck came with rear bags only. I installed front ones.

This was the end result.

Air valves and gauges along with a vintage outboard motor tach.

I took it to many car shows.

No surf truck is complete without a surfboard rack. I made this one out of 1/2" EMT.

A photographer from bling rockets asked me if he could photograph my truck.. Who would say no do that?

So he did and sent me some copys of what he took.

Enjoy!

I'm working on a 62 C10 step side and have some questions.
1. I bought a set of tail lights the pull that came with the lights has two
filaments would that be for break / turn signal and the other filament be for just the tail light?
2. I also need to replace the front grill, the one I have now is not in the best of shape but looks like a 64 grill are they inter changeabl ?

1. one filament would be for brake/turn and the other one is for the tail/running light.

2. Im not sure if you can swap grills from a 64 to a 62. I would think they would bolt up the same.

Location of the rear bags. Not my first choice, but it worked well.

The whitewalls were painted by the PO. I actually like them better a little distressed. There use to be a product that you could buy to paint them. They are the poor mans whitewalls.

Awesome....she's low! Did you cup the control arms? Just trying to get a full picture of your setup...Trying to figure out a game plan for my 62 when I ditch the torsion bars and I love how yours sits.

Re: My 65 Stepper build thread.

I'm not sure what you mean about cupped. I just replaced the springs with the bags. Nothing was done on the bottom and at the top, I welded the plate where the bag mounts. The only issue with that was being able to reach the bolts and line. It was doable, but a little tight. I dont think I have any better pics of the bag install that what I posted. The bag did rub the lower control arm a tiny bit, but never caused any issues.

With your 62, you will need to weld a plate on the bottom control arm, there is nothing there to mount the bag. .

By cupped I mean that the upper surface of the lower control arm had been removed and dropped down....something like this.

I see from your pics that it was not though. Im liking that you could get that low with just bags without having to modify too much. I'm probably going to do a later model 3/4 ton crossmember on my truck so I can pick up disc brakes and cheaper drop spindles if I decide I need them.

Re: My 65 Stepper build thread.

Gotcha!!

I think the only other mods I did on the front was to remove the lower bump stops. When aired out, the front cross member was about 2" from the ground.

I was looking to bag the front of my 61, but never got around to it.
