Please help! Loud grinding noise...
When I start my 68 350 there's a loud grind only for a second then goes away. The truck is running fine. Maybe my starter?? Thoughts?

Could be any number of things, hard to diagnose without actually hearing it. I work at PDX and can take a look at it it if you want to bring it by.

x2 could be a number of things. My hunch would be the starter is sticking out too long. (bendix on the starter sticking)

Re: Please help! Loud grinding noise...
Go under the truck and hold a 3/4" wood dowel to the starter casing and other end to your ear. Then have a buddy start it.
You'll be amazing how much you can hear this way. If nothing Else you can eliminate the starter as the problem. Also good way to isolate engine noise or ticking rocker. Mark
