angle strips

I am wanting to change the wood floor and medal strips on my 1969 step side has anyone use the angle strip covers? how do they work after doing some reading it appears that the angle strip from factory is weld on the side panels and the angle strip cover can go over the factory strips without having to remove them can anyone help with this problem any input would be great

Re: angle strips

I have seen those covers offered. I guess they could be alright as long as there is no rust issue with the original angles. But then if there is no rust issue why would you want to cover them?
I plan to go the other way and replace my angles and treat for rust behind them.
It seems like Brothers or MarK has a video on replacing bed angles. They are spot welded to the side panels. You can bolt the new ones in place or spot weld them as OE.

Re: angle strips

BOOG, I'm new to site first post actually but wondered if you might have some pictures of bolted on angle strips for some ideas. I just removed all one million spot welds on the old rusty ones and wanted to bolt on new ones. Thanks in advance.

Re: angle strips

Welcome aboard Ballo. I haven't gotten around to repairing my bed yet. I'm waiting for cooler fall weather. That video i mentioned at Brothers Trucks or Mar K bed parts site gives real good info on doing this. If i recall right it shows just where to drill and place the bolts and bolt type and size, etc. Give it a look.
Take pics and show us how it went.

Re: angle strips

If you go to page 4 on the C20 build thread in my sig line, you can sort of make out the bolted method I used to attach the angle strips. I just couldn't bear to weld them on and start a new corrosion spot.

I match drilled before painting the bed sides and used stainless button-head cap screws. I'll try to get a better pic if I have time...
