1 ton Conversion
Anyone ever installed 1-Ton dually wheels on the front of a 3/4 ton truck Hub? Here is my problem. I have a 1970 chevy 1-ton dually frame, which I installed a 48 chevy pickup cab and bed on it. Ending up with a 48 1 ton dually. It looks great except The front stock 70 dually wheels stick out of the front fender wells, like a inch on each side. I am thinking changing the hubs from 1 ton to 3/4 ton. Then adding a 1 or 2 inch spacer and then the dually wheels, making the front total track 3-4 inches less. Ending up with the dually wheels inside the fender wells not outside.

Re: 1 ton Conversion
My college roommates dad has a 47 GMC that's been swapped onto a mid 70's square body chassis. At least in the case of his truck, they used narrowed control arms to squeeze it under the fenders. You'd have to check for A-arm, ball joint, and tire rod end clearance to see if you could pull that off.

Re: 1 ton Conversion
Sounds like a neat truck, welcome. I would be very hesistant to use spacers, especially on the front wheels. Im sure you will find help on the forum here.

Re: 1 ton Conversion
You maybe correct. Maybe the control arms ( A-Arms ) from a 3/4 ton are shorter then a one ton. I know I am only talking about the wheels sticking out past the fender like 3/4 inch. but still it does not look right to me. Having them tucked in at least a inch. or inside the fender wells would be a lot better. Someone besides me must have ran into this problem.

Re: 1 ton Conversion
I put a complete front crossmember from a 78 1 ton dually (and reareand) under the chassis on a 68 I did a year or so ago. Bolted right in after drilling one new hole and elongating on hole per side. This allowed me to ditch the whole 68 1 ton front axle assembly. As to if it will stay under your front fenders on your 47 I don't know. Tape measure.

Re: 1 ton Conversion
Have you looked into 1 1/2 or 2 ton 47 -54 fenders. They are wider than the lighter truck fenders.

Re: 1 ton Conversion
Thanks Guys for all your input. Some how I going to get the wheels inside the fenders. Wbc409 I did start with a 1949 chevy 2 ton flat bed. Mike C I am beginning to think your correct with your odds. I hoping to get it to the roundup and at least one run down Congress. Maybe if you go you will see it. But by then maybe with luck my front track will be narrower. And looking correct. Got to get her done. Thanks again everyone !!

Re: 1 ton Conversion
Cool. Good luck with your search. As you probably know, because these trucks are so narrow most swaps are onto S10 chassis or Camaro/Nova subframe welded in.
If I go I'll certainly be looking for you!
