Re: Restore family 65-street rod
Welp, here goes the first real upgrade this truck has had in years. I am the oldest of Steve's sons, I decided beginning of this year that there was no reason I should be able to out run the hot rod in my Miata. Especially not considering I have not 1 but 2 TPI motors sitting on the stand in the garage, a 305 and a 350.
I have spent the last 6 months building up the 350 into the best TPI I could make on a ultra-slim budget. Took the best parts from both motors(the 350 was a 87, the 305 was a 91) Yesterday I started pulling the old motor(305 Carb). I have attached pics as the truck looked yesterday, and of the new motor. I should have more time to get the motor out this coming weekend |

Re: Restore family 65-street rod
Update: Got the truck running with the 350 TPI last night. Running like crap(something about forgetting to time it after stabbing the distributor, as well as realizing we have a large vacuum leak still...) but it started on the first try, which I did not think was possible. Need to actually beautify the wiring now and punch a hole for the wiring harness(started it with the ecm lying on the ground, not in the truck at all.
Fuel wise we went with a surge tank being fed by the old carb fuel pump, and a airtex e8248 for high pressure. Photos included of the install, will include finished photos when I actually finish it next weekend.... |

Re: Restore family 65-street rod
UPDATE-Motor finalized and some implementation details fixed. Motor is stable and running well. While it is not fragile, I would not declare it durable and reliable just yet. Still testing.
Next updates will include power windows and new steering column. We will also figure out how to go from floor shifter on 700R4 to column. I think where motor is mounted and how close the distrib is to firewall may mean the shifting linkage is in wrong place for stock shift linkage parts to work. |

Re: Restore family 65-street rod
If your engine is mounted in the original location for a small block, there is no reason stock auto shift column linkage shouldn't work.
