Re: Barbwire Customs Project#1
It has been awhile since I last updated. I have enjoyed my truck tremendously until about 2 months ago when my turbo 400 went out. Since then I just happened to come across a motor from a 2001 Denali or vortec max truck and it is a LQ4 6.0 drive by wire motor that I bought. This motor will help complete my truck and meet my requirements of 400hp. I plan to change cams and do a little tuning. Eventually when I can afford it I will use a 4l60e or 80e transmission but for now I believe I will fix my turbo 400 and use it. Also I purchased some cab corner speaker mounts that I will use to complete the interior. Also sorry I forgot to get a picture of the motor but I will get one for you all.

Re: Barbwire Customs Project#1
Got alot of goodies rounded up! Waiting on a few more and need to clean every thing up. I have a 6.0 ls out of a 2001 truck and a 4l80e out of a 2007 van. I have already gotten Doug Thorley headers, Dirty Dingo mounts and many other parts! I am planning to install everything and make sure everything is in good mechanical order then a cam upgrade to meet my 400+ hp goal and new diff. gears to help put that power to the ground! I am hoping this monster of a tranny will fit in the tunnel, does anybody know if a 4l80e will fit in a low hump cab? Thanks!

Re: Barbwire Customs Project#1
They were hand made them from aluminum. They are not functioning handles but more of just a door pull since the doors have electric door poppers. I would have shaved the doors but it is windy where I live and want a little something to hold onto when needed. Sorry for the long time between reply.

Re: Barbwire Customs Project#1
It's slow going with the limited time but the transmission is cleaned and the filter is changed. There didn't seem to be much junk on the inside so maybe it will last a couple thousand until I can rebuild and have the funds I need. I hope to have the motor cleaned and painted in the next week or two so I can at least set the motor and tranny in and start the install. I am trying to decide on whether I want to go ahead and install a cam and if so which one. I am wanting one that has a little lope but has no trouble running accesaries (ac and such) at a stop light. I have looked at the GM Z06 cam but I think it's a little small. If there are any ideas out there let me know.

Re: Barbwire Customs Project#1
Love the new motor plans, I would agree that the Z06 cam is a small cam for an LQ4. Best advice would be to speak with one of the guys who spec cams out for these motors like Martin at Tick Performance or Brian Tooley at BTR or even Texas Speed. Any of them should be able to give you some sound advice on what cam to run depending on what you want. Also check out LS1Tech.com if you haven't already. I have found tons of great information there for an upcoming swap in my truck.

Re: Barbwire Customs Project#1
It's been awhile since the last post but alot of work has been done. I did get the motor in and running and then my Craig's list tranny died but for the cheap price I got about a 1000 miles out of it so until I get the tranny fixed it's a dead truck. While waiting for time to fix the tranny I think I am going to break down and get another set of wheels. Also I am debating on a porterbuilt drop member. Might as well pull the motor again if I have to pull the tranny, right? Haha.
