Posi rear identification, look at the filler plug...

I had one of my 72 half tons on the lift trying to find out why it had so much road noise, found it had a loose pinion so figured I would pull he rear end to rebuild it.
So I put my other 72 on the lift to borrow the rear from it when I notice it has a different style filler plug, like the one to the left in this picture

It didn't have a tag on it though but I immediately recognized he plug as one to attach a posi tag...took the cover off and it does have posi.

The non posi rears have a plug that fits flush to the housing.

That's not always the case, I've seen both style plugs. The best way is to pull the cover.

Definitely good to know. I've had innies and outies as shown but never knew the rhyme or reason.
