parting out 2 trucks

Hi. I bought 2 trucks for parts in an online auction in June. Just driving down this weekend to pick up parts. The trucks are located in Mobridge, SD. I am getting the cab, gas tank, tail gate, and oil filter off the 61 C20. I am getting the tail gate and sill plates from the GMC (1966?). Looks like the GMC might have a V6 and a 4 speed, won't know till I am there. I won't have much time, but if any one sees anything they would like, let me know. The GMC will be for sale once I take my parts.

Interested in grille letters and trim around side windows from GMC. Maybe bed from blue truck if I can figure out shipping. Will get some pics of that slider window for you.

Re: parting out 2 trucks

I need a piece of the sheet metal of one of the cabs. I have a cab with a bad dent on the back of the cab from under belt line to gas filler. it starts about 1/2 way across cab and about 12 inches below window.

Boy, I'd love to have the doors off that blue truck. Too bad there's no easy/cheap way to get them to Denver when I drive out there this month.

Will see what I can do. Just to clarify, both trucks only have passenger side doors.

Re: parting out 2 trucks

The bed has 4 or 5 dents bigger than the palm of my hand in the sides. Dropped my phone in the toilet this morning (43 years old, first time for everything, great), so working on getting some pics for you.

Re: parting out 2 trucks

I would like to buy the power brake booster set up on the red GMC truck. Please let me know if for sale and the price. Would like the whole brake set-up including rod to brake pedal.

Besides other wrenches, you will need a big Phillips screw driver to take it off.

Thanks,
Les

The GMC has a 4 speed and a small block chevy with the ram's horns.

Re: parting out 2 trucks

Indian - I will certainly have that piece for you, but likely won't be tearing into this cab immediately. Might be a few weeks. For everyone else, is any one desperate to have their parts shipped right away? I would like to just drive home in the AM, don't have any shipping supplies with me, etc. I can either figure out shipping from Canada (a bit more expensive, but mostly slow if doing postal), or can ship when I am back in the states in 3 to 4 weeks.

Just curious, I was watching about 10 trucks in that auction... Were they as good as they looked in person?

Re: parting out 2 trucks

I was pretty darn happy with my purchases, especially the blue truck. The rubber grommets are still dark and shiny, no idea where this truck was kept for most of its life. There was a bit of rust in the driver's floor, but to be expected, and I could kind of see it in the pictures. The wrecking yard owner was very nice. Put the truck on his hoist so I could get my parts off easier, let me use his air compressor, let me have my dog in his shop, and let me bomb around his yard on his side by side. My only disappointment was that the frame horns were gone. I had convinced myself they were there, but when I enlarged the pics, you could see in one pic that they were gone. Very good experience overall.

Re: parting out 2 trucks

I would have liked to get the rear bumper off the GMC, but ran out of time. It is bolted on, not welded as far as I could tell. If any one were interested in going to pick up the rest of the truck, I would let it go if I could get the bumper removed and shipped to Montana.

Re: parting out 2 trucks

Torch is often the way to go with old bumper bolts. You can also split the nuts with a grinder if you have enough clearance for the tool. What's left of the truck at this point? Just fyi the GMC bumper wont fit your '61 unless you cut off and relocate the brackets (frame rails are farther apart on 60-62).

Re: parting out 2 trucks

The bolts on the bumper didn't look too bad. Just at that point in the day, I had all the air hoses put away, and couldn't be bothered to drag them out again, as we were packing up to leave. The back bumper would actually be for my trailer, which is the back half of a 1959. Was pretty sure some sort of modification would be needed. I took the tailgate and hardware, sill plates, trim, shift knob, and brake booster off the GMC, the rest is still there.
