Upper Door Hinge Friction Pad Repair
I hated that my doors wouldn't stay open while i was working on the interior. I was propping it open with anything. This afternoon I had had enough! I drove the roll pin out of the upper hinge and removed the arm and the 2 pads. Pondered it for a bit, cleaned them up, pryed the pads out and turned them both over. Then I spread the arms out a little with a screwdriver and a hammer and re-assembled. They work like a champ. Doors stay open from about halfway out and closed on there own less than that. This was a BREEZE! Took less than an hour for both doors and works great, hopefully for a while!

I have the same problem, about ten years ago I bought some replacement pads from the then Chevy Duty, now Classic parts but they don't seem to sell them anymore. I've been looking for something made of a similar material to use with no luck. Mine are simply worn out, not enough material left to make turning them over possible. Anyone know of a supplier that sells only the pads? By the way, did you do this by yourself or with help? If you did it by yourself how did you keep the door from falling while the pin was out?

I have repaired a lot of the door stops with good results. I use brake pads as a material to make the pads out of and then glue the pads in with 3M Trim Adhesive. The pads last a very long time and I have not worn any out yet after years of use.

For my driver truck, I just spread the metal apart on the arm to make it contact the friction pad. Took .48 seconds.

Nothing like reviving an old thread! Tried to drive out my roll pin as shown in post #4 above. No joy, that sucker has not moved in 46 years and is not gonna give up easily. Soaked it with penetrating oil and will try again later. Pads are shot and I've already tried spreading the two arms apart. I'll let ya know if I ever break that stubborn pin loose...
