1972 Short Wheelbase Driveshaft
Hello all, have a 1972 SWB Super with a 400 sbc and turbo 350 trans short tail shaft. Have a 2 piece drive shaft in it and would like to find 1 piece drive shaft that would fit without having to have one made. Would 1973 short wheelbase with the same engine and trans setup work? Haven't found one yet, just thought I would pick you guys brains this morning.
Thanks Eddie |

New ones are cheap. I paid 93 bucks for a new drive shaft and U joints.

Re: 1972 Short Wheelbase Driveshaft
Have one made that fits your truck.
Junkyards lift vehicles with forklifts often dmaging the driveshaft. Same truck with same engine and trans could be mounted on different engine stands or the different mount locations requiring a different length driveshaft. A used driveshaft should be rebuilt and rebalanced by a pro anyways. You're at the driveline shop. Hand them your transmission yoke and have them build you a new one. This is a situation where used is more of a hassle than its worth. I've heard of different shafts fitting but who knows what the setup was or if there's one in a junkyard within $200 miles. |
