The peel-n-seal and other less expensive alternatives are not heat barriers. They are good panel dampers ( sound ) but really do nothing for the heat.
I used Tru-Max Insulator Mats part number: TRU-30000-12406. This is a 28 dollar 48" by 72" roll of effective insulation ( heat/sound ) with foil facing on both sides. I put it down with 3m spray adhesive against the peel-n-seal. Used aluminum tape to seal the seams and went as high up the firewall as possible with the stuff. Works as advertised. -klb
