Help with Big Block Valve cover item - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am in the process of getting this K2500 4x4 with a big block motor road worthy. I admit I don't know much about the motor and am trying to figure out what the item in the picture on back side of valve cover is for. I know that the drivers side valve cover grommet needs the PVC valve, the passenger side front is the oil fill cap. Just trying to found out what the back passenger side on the valve cover is for and what to do with it.

There is a spacer missing that has a tube coming out the back of it that connects to the screen in the valve cover

Carb. spacer & flame arrestor: The spacer sits on top of the carb. base gasket. A 3/4" ID hose runs between the spacer and flame arrestor. This hose is approx. 5" long. The flame arrestor inserts into the RH (TS) valve cover using a grommet. The hose is retained using two 1.1/4" tower clamps.

I think that is part of an emissions control system used on later model motors. 4x4 trucks were not offered with big block engines, the fact that the alternator is on the passenger side suggests to me that the motor is 1976 or newer, just my .02 cents.

Seems right. Might be a 454. I don't recognize the part in the OP. Perhaps it's 1976ish as well.
