how to mount 3rd row yukon seats?

Hey guys! I know alot of you are using the 3rd row seat out of Yukon. I was wondering how you are mounting them. Are you cutting the factory clamps off the bottom and retro fitting them?

If I recall the seats unlatch by a lever in the back of the seat that releases the clamps. If so, how would you take the seat out of your truck if you are in fact using the factory clamps? Pics would be great!

And all this matters cuz why????????????? This is a generic question. If you have to know I did a well known 46 build over on the pre side of the forum. However I am gathering up parts for another project and was just curiousas to how this is being done. Sorry to have asked.

ogre just wants to see what you have done, no harm intended I am sure.

does your seat have wheels? I have a caravan seat with rollers and I intend to just take out the rollers and make a mounting tab that uses the bolt.

First off I asked a harmless question that could have been answered with a pic, and a simple 10 word sentence. I had an opportunity to buy a Yukon seat off of CL (for a future project), and just wanted to know what would be involved with mounting it. To try and read through pages and pages of build threads with dead pics (like Ogre's), is pointless, and a waste of time now. I have a family and a business to operate. And yes, I have tried to download the fix for photobucket pics but it doessn't seem to work with my Mac.

Secondly, to post a link to my current build thread was not pertinent to the original question I had asked. If there is a forum rule that sez I must have a link to my build thread I will certainly post the link in my sig. But now I am wondering.... If I didn't even have a build thread on this forum, are you saying I can't ask a question?

Furthermore, I really try not to draw to much attention to my project because (to be honest with you) it's nowhere near worthy, compared to others on this forum. In fact the few that have read my build, know there are numerous occasions where I advise people not to follow what I am doing because it is so 1/2 assed. In fact the only reason I started a build thread on my truck was so my father, who didn't live near buy, could keep track of what I was doing and advise me of it's short commings. Unfortunately he never got a chance to see the truck finished, so if the moderators wants to delete that thread to free up some space, please do so.

Sorry for the long drawn out response. In no way was I attacking Ogre. If he feels I have, I apologize!

no offense taken, but the floor of an ad vs tf is very different and would take a different approach to installing any seat

Hey Ogre! glad to hear everything is cool. Actually the seat won't be going into an AD or TF which is why i was confused as to needing the link to my build. The victim is a 46 Dodge that will have a supercharged 225 slant 6 thread

Re: how to mount 3rd row yukon seats?

maybe this helps, if you buy the brackets you can mount them to your truck

Re: how to mount 3rd row yukon seats?

I have seen kits on Ebay with those brackets. That might be the best way to go. Only thing is I think those brackets have to be recessed in pockets down into the floor for the seat to lock in place properly.

I just though maybe someone had cut the factory bracketry off and came up with another way of doing it. I didn't want to be the first one to cut the fabric off the bottom of my seat only to find a can of worms underneath.

Re: how to mount 3rd row yukon seats?

unless removable seating is the plan i'd set the seat on the floor to mock up the mounts
i'd think you'll find the seats too low for driving but i'm a tall freak that needs legroom
install your steering column, brake pedal, clutch pedal and the seat before cutting or welding anything
as low as those seats are it wouldn't surprise me to see the brake pedal above the seat bottom

Re: how to mount 3rd row yukon seats?

Personally, I don’t have the slightest problem with posting about an old Dodge truck here but wouldn’t you likely find more directly applicable information on a Dodge forum?

Years ago I had a ‘46 Chevy pickup and was looking for answers before this site had a sub forum for earlier-than-‘46 Chevy trucks. No one seemed to be into them much then.

Re: how to mount 3rd row yukon seats?

Perhaps..........But wouldn't you find information on a Chevy seat, that fits the old Chevy trucks, on a Chevy forum as well?

I figured there would be more guys here with knowledge of mounting a Chevy Yukon seat then there would be on a Dodge forum.
I don't think the issue is the make of the cab, rather the weird clasps on the bottom of the seat.

Re: how to mount 3rd row yukon seats?

Paintman on a past TF project I used the truck's original seat brackets mated to the new seat I put in. Would something like that work with your combo? Sorry no pics it was before computers...lol

Re: how to mount 3rd row yukon seats?

I built a frame so I could keep the easy removal, tilt feature. Put stereo under seat on passenger side, slide out drawer under driver. Made upholstered bucks to hide all the metal. Mine are from an 2007 Yukon.

Re: how to mount 3rd row yukon seats?

The setup like Orrie showed should work in about any rig the seat will fit in.
Making the seat adjustable or not adjustable is up to you but if you are one who tends to sell a rig not long after he finishes it, having the seat be adjustable would be a big plus.

I'd block the seat up in the truck with wood blocks until it felt just right and then measure and fab the bracket for it and off you go. We are all different in how we like to sit in a truck or car so there is not one perfect fit for everyone as far as brackets go.

Re: how to mount 3rd row yukon seats?

I set the initial angle to match my wifes Honda, note that the back brackets pivot and the front is a large threaded rod so I can get a few degrees of adjustment.
